The most prominent skill developed by the Counting Peg Board is one-to-one correspondence, which helps children understand the concept of quantities and establishes a direct relationship between numbers and objects or actions.
The Counting Peg Board can be introduced at 3 years of age and can be an effective math material all the way through kindergarten.
Our Counting Peg Board pegs are intentionally designed to exceed the size of "small parts" as defined by US toy safety regulations. However, as with all of our learning materials, the Counting Peg Board is intended for use under adult supervision.
Our Counting Peg Board aligns with the Montessori approach to teaching math through hands-on, concrete materials that progress from simple to abstract concepts.
There are 10 wooden boards, numbered 1 through 10.

Getting Started
Getting Started
Place the counting boards in sequential order: 1, 2, 3. Put the 6 pegs in a small container (the storage box is perfect!). Insert 1 peg into the board labeled 1, and say the number 1. Continue this process with each board until your child is ready to try on his or her own. Repeat this process with a new subset of boards.
